Born in Baxter, Tennessee. Studied art in Japan for two years with Master Sumi-e artist Kumagai, and continued to study art and art education upon her return to the United States at Middle Tennessee State University where she earned a bachelor’s degree. Received a Dodd-Carnegie Fellowship to study art history and drawing in Cortona, Italy. Graduated from University of Georgia with an M.F.A. degree. Has 42 years of work experience as an arts educator and administrator.

Held teaching positions at Cumberland University, Tennessee Technological University, Nashville State Community College, Gallatin Junior and Senior High Schools, Tullahoma High School and Cookeville High School. Served as arts administrator (Director) with the Rutherford County Arts and Humanities Council and the Joe L. Evins Appalachian Center for Craft. Retired in 2019 from Cookeville High School where she taught art for the past 31 years. She has won numerous art awards and exhibited art across the U.S. (Washington, D.C., New Orleans, Louisville, North Carolina) and one show in Italy. Lives in Silver Point on Center Hill Lake with her son Trace, dog Spot and cat Romy. Enjoys house plants, Bonsai, gardening and reading.

I've been making art all my life since I was a child. I used whatever materials were at hand and found lots of source materials in the trash can. I began formal studies of painting at the age of 18 while I was in Japan, and I've been painting ever since. My views and philosophy of art have changed a lot over the years As a teacher, I shared my knowledge and love of art with thousands over the years. I see making and experiencing art next in importance after breathing.
