Bio
Lived my live here in Smithville, started Woodcarving classes in 2006, teaching in 2009. I've competed in dome of the hardest judged competitions in the U.S. and against international careers. I've taught all over the U.S. but teach only at my studio now. I've been in many magazines over the years.
Describe your art/craft (medium, process, etc).
Woodcarving, I use basswood, butternut, and cedar. I carve realistic human bust, realistic animals, and relief and fireplace mantel. Animals are carved with power tools, all other is done by hand tools.
What drives you to make your art/craft?
Seeing a chunk of wood and seeing what it is before I start it. Amazing to see what comes out of it.
Who or what are your greatest influences?
I have a mentor that has passed on, a great influence. European carving is amazing as it's so detailed.
How does living in Tennessee influence and inspire your art?
Wood, it's everywhere, we are in a native area. Animals are also everywhere.

Bees, honeybees, and honey

I've had my carvings displayed in the Governor’s mansion and have been featured on Tennessee Crossroads.
