Cedar Rivers
Cedar Rivers (they/he) is a Dry Creek resident and care worker, who picked up a needle and thread while sitting bedside. Because Cedar brings their quilting with them wherever they are needed, their quilts are hand-stitched; additionally, all of his creations are made from secondhand materials. There is a legacy of craft in Cedar’s family, which Cedar intends to honor alongside quilting's radical history here in the south.
Cedar rivers is a self-taught quilt artist and care worker. Inspired by their ancestors' quilts, they took up a needle and thread while sitting bedside as they cared for their neighbors. Whenever there isn't a work in progress in their lap, they can be found in the garden, or on horseback alongside their neighbors in the hills that surround home. “I have always been an artist, but performance and writing came more easily to me than visual mediums. I have always sought the medium I that suited me, and eventually realized that I have always reached for a needle and thread to solve problems. When I first started quilting, it was with the support of a quilting circle made up of neighbors here in the Dry Creek Valley. I didn't think I would make more than one quilt - that I would get bored and move on - but here I still am, dozens of projects later!”
