Bio
I’m a local potter. I studied art at MTSU, and teach at Oakland High School.
Describe your art/craft (medium, process, etc).
I make functional pottery and sometimes combine elements of woodworking in decorative art.
What drives you to make your art/craft?
I’ve always enjoyed experimenting with materials and bringing ideas off the pages in by sketchbook.
Who or what are your greatest influences?
I’m influenced a lot by earthscapes and nature and appreciate artists who rely heavily on the elements and principles of design.
How does living in Tennessee influence and inspire your art?
I have visited a lot of caves in Tennessee. Caves contain a lot of clay. While I don’t use clay from caves, every time I open a bag of clay the smell reminds me of a cave.
Beyond your art/craft, what are your other interests?
I spend a lot of time outside. I enjoy cycling, backpacking, and cave exploration.
