Artist statement:
We are excited to announce the return of William Kooienga to the Off the Beaten Path Studio Tour this year. Known for his exceptional craftsmanship and artistic vision, Kooienga brings with him a wealth of new experiences and creations that reflect his dedication to his craft.
Last year, Kooienga completed a prestigious commission for the new Four Seasons Hotel in Nashville, where he delivered six stunning sculptures that have become a hallmark of the hotel’s design. Since then, his creative journey has taken him from urban art installations to the peaceful countryside, where he took down a majestic 42” pecan tree on the farm of country music stars (and Off the Beaten Path Studio Tour Sponsors) Aaron and Thea Tippen. This project has blossomed into a collaboration to create extensive custom furnishings for their new home, blending rustic charm with refined elegance.
Kooienga’s latest passion is evident in his collection of tables, which will be showcased during the studio tour. With a keen interest in designing tables of all sizes and styles, he has developed a variety of pieces that reflect his unique approach to functional art. From coffee tables to end tables and dining tables, Kooienga’s work features a diverse array of shapes, including round, rectangular, oval, and even intricately interlocking dovetailed designs. With as many as ten tables on hand, each piece tells a story of craftsmanship, innovation, and beauty. He will also have many wood and stone sculptures, carved wood and stone bowls, and his usual extensive selection of stunning cutting and charcuterie boards.
William Kooienga’s return to the Off the Beaten Path Studio Tour is a must-see for anyone who appreciates fine woodworking, innovative design, and the artistry of a master craftsman. Join us in welcoming him back and exploring his incredible work.
