About us

Every fall, on the last full weekend in October, when the color is breath taking and there is certain crispness to the air, the artists of Off the Beaten Path Studio Tour in DeKalb and Cannon Counties of Middle Tennessee open their studios for a free three day open studio event. Celebrating its 15th anniversary the tour has grown to include 14 stops with 25 participating artists. Visitors can download a map detailing directions to each stop as they follow the bright yellow signs making their way through the countryside to explore the creative activities at each studio. Artists are demonstrating their craft mediums and offering handcrafted shopping opportunities at every stop on the tour.

Our History

The Off the Beaten Path Studio Tour had its beginnings 15 years ago when Louis and Christine Columbarini hatched a plan to bring together artists in the two counties of DeKalb and Cannon and invite the public to their studio for demonstrations, sales and a get to know you kind of experience. From that first small handful of innovative artists of the early years, the tour has expanded from a two day event to include all three days of a long fall weekend.

At each stop on the studio tour visitors will find the most exquisitely crafted contemporary fine crafts that are among the finest in the nation. The list includes rake pottery, hand blown glass, functional and sculptural ceramics, handmade artist’s paper and books, reclaimed jewelry, custom designs in semi-precious stones and sterling silver jewelry, woodturnings, architectural ceramics, woven wearable’s, furniture, large scale pulp painted canvases, ethnic inspired dolls, original designs in paper, marbled paper and fabric, traditional face jugs and large scale one of a kind wood sculptures and original paintings.

The studio tour attracts not only local and regional visitors but every year there more visitors from other state who plan their fall vacations around the dates for the studio tour. Whether it’s a romantic weekend get a way or a family outing the tour has something for everyone to enjoy.
